Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday assured students across the country that those responsible for the NEET paper leak case would face strict legal action, while emphasizing that the interests of students remain the government’s top priority. Speaking at the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) parliamentary party meeting, popularly known as Mangal Milan, the Prime Minister urged lawmakers to engage with young people and address concerns surrounding examination irregularities.
According to people familiar with the meeting, PM Modi told NDA Members of Parliament that students should be reassured that their future and interests would be protected. He stressed that anyone found guilty of involvement in the paper leak would be dealt with strictly under the law. His remarks come at a time when the country has witnessed widespread debate over examination security and growing demands for stronger measures to prevent such incidents.
The Prime Minister’s statement also comes amid ongoing protests by students and political groups over alleged irregularities in the conduct of competitive examinations. The issue gained further attention during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, where the opposition raised concerns over repeated paper leaks and demanded accountability from the government.
Following the parliamentary party meeting, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju briefed the media and described the gathering as productive. He said the Prime Minister addressed several important national issues and offered guidance to lawmakers on matters concerning governance, economic growth, and public welfare.
Rijiju said PM Modi highlighted India’s recent achievements, including the signing of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with several countries. The Prime Minister reportedly emphasized that every trade agreement signed by India would continue to safeguard the interests of farmers.
“The Prime Minister made it clear that the welfare of farmers remains paramount in any Free Trade Agreement signed with any country. These agreements are designed to serve the best interests of both our farmers and the nation,” Rijiju said.
The meeting also welcomed newly elected Rajya Sabha members. BJP president Nitin Nabin attended the parliamentary party meeting for the first time as a Rajya Sabha member after assuming the party’s presidency.
On the issue of the NEET paper leak, people aware of the discussions said the Prime Minister reiterated that individuals already arrested in connection with the case would face the harshest punishment if found guilty through due legal process. He also urged party lawmakers to communicate with students and ensure that misinformation and unnecessary panic do not spread.
The controversy surrounding the NEET examination has sparked protests in several parts of the country, with students demanding transparency and stronger safeguards for competitive examinations. During the opening days of the Monsoon Session, opposition parties also raised the issue inside Parliament, calling for discussions on examination reforms and action against those responsible for paper leaks.
Ahead of the Monsoon Session, PM Modi had highlighted the achievements of India’s youth in his customary address to the media. He praised young Indians for their contributions in education, innovation, sports, and entrepreneurship, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to creating opportunities for them.
