Delhi Police Arrest Suspect After Wife’s Death
New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested a 53-year-old man for allegedly killing his wife during a long-running property dispute and trying to make the death look like a suicide.
Police identified the accused as Kamal Singh. Investigators arrested him near Mathura Railway Station after launching a multi-state search operation.
According to police, Singh tried to mislead investigators by hiding the alleged murder weapon and placing another weapon at the scene. During questioning, he reportedly claimed that the Hollywood series The Staircase inspired his plan to mislead investigators.
Son Finds Mother Dead in Gagan Vihar
The incident came to light on the night of July 30, when the couple’s son returned to their home in Gagan Vihar, Shahdara.
He found his mother, Komal Singh (50), lying in a pool of blood. Police said they found a blood-stained pair of scissors in her hand, which allegedly helped create the appearance of a suicide.
However, the couple’s son immediately suspected foul play and accused his father of killing his mother.
Police Recover Alleged Murder Weapon
During the investigation, police recovered a sword that they believe Singh used in the alleged killing.
Investigators said Singh concealed the sword inside a bag and attempted to dispose of it to destroy evidence.
Police also examined CCTV footage from the area to reconstruct the events surrounding Komal’s death.
CCTV Footage Helps Police Track the Case
Investigators found that the couple’s two children had left the house that morning, leaving only Kamal and Komal inside.
Police said CCTV footage captured sounds of distress from Komal before Singh left the house carrying a bag. Investigators used the footage to track his movements after the incident.
Accused Flees With Cash
Police also found that Singh withdrew nearly ₹7 lakh from his bank accounts before fleeing Delhi.
Technical surveillance helped officers track his journey from Delhi towards Gorakhpur. Investigators believe he planned to cross into Nepal but later changed his route and travelled towards Mathura.
Police eventually arrested him near Mathura Railway Station. Officers recovered ₹12.75 lakh in cash and a scooter allegedly used during his escape.
Property Dispute Allegedly Motived the Crime
During interrogation, Singh reportedly told police that a prolonged family property dispute motivated the alleged killing.
Investigators also said Singh admitted to buying the scissors several days before the incident. Police believe he purchased them as part of an alleged plan to stage the crime scene and make Komal’s death appear self-inflicted.
Investigation Continues
Police are continuing to investigate the case and examine the evidence surrounding Komal Singh’s death.
Investigators are also assessing the accused’s statements, CCTV footage, financial transactions and recovered items as they build the case against him.
