The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the NEET-UG 2026 results on Thursday, with Aryan Gupta from Punjab and Panshul Bansal from Haryana jointly topping the country’s biggest medical entrance examination.
The achievement has brought immense pride to Aryan’s family, especially since he comes from a family of doctors. Speaking after the results were declared, Aryan described the moment as “a dream come true” and expressed gratitude for the support he received throughout his preparation.
According to Aryan, consistent hard work and discipline played the biggest role in helping him achieve the top rank. He revealed that during his preparation, he often studied for 16 to 17 hours a day. In an interview with news agency PTI, he said that there were times when he sacrificed sleep to stay focused on his goal. Despite the demanding schedule, he remained committed to his studies, which ultimately helped him secure one of the highest scores in the examination.
Along with discussing his preparation strategy, Aryan also shared an important message for future NEET aspirants. He advised students to trust and follow their teachers throughout their preparation journey. According to him, experienced teachers understand the examination pattern and know how to guide students effectively. He encouraged aspirants to avoid unnecessary confusion and remain dedicated to the study plans provided by their mentors.
Aryan also spoke about his future ambitions. He said that he wants to become an oncologist, a doctor who specializes in treating cancer. The decision is deeply personal for him. He revealed that his grandmother passed away due to cancer when he was studying in the third standard. That incident inspired him to dedicate his career to cancer treatment and patient care. He said he had made a promise to himself at a young age that he would one day work in the field of oncology.
The NEET-UG 2026 results reflected strong competition among candidates across the country. According to the NTA, nearly 11.21 lakh candidates qualified the examination this year. While Aryan Gupta and Panshul Bansal secured the highest score of 715 out of 720, 19 candidates scored 700 marks, and 138 candidates obtained 690 marks.
One notable trend in this year’s results was the strong performance of first-time candidates. More than 93 percent of the students who scored above 690 marks were appearing for the NEET-UG examination for the first time. This highlights the growing level of preparation among fresh aspirants and the increasing competitiveness of the examination.
NEET-UG remains the primary entrance examination for admission to undergraduate medical courses, including MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, veterinary, and several other allied health science programmes across India.
