Indian Navy Receives Another MH-60R Seahawk
The India-US defence partnership has gained further momentum as the Indian Navy received another MH-60R Seahawk multi-role naval helicopter.
The advanced helicopter arrived in Kochi last week and will strengthen India’s maritime surveillance and anti-submarine warfare capabilities. According to the US Embassy in India, two more MH-60R Seahawks are expected to arrive this week, further improving the Navy’s operational readiness.

US Ambassador Welcomes the Delivery
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor welcomed the latest delivery and described it as “excellent news” for the growing defence partnership between the two countries.
In a post on X, Gor said the new capability would strengthen maritime security and support the shared India-US commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.
The delivery reflects the expanding defence cooperation between New Delhi and Washington through military exercises, technology partnerships and strategic agreements.
MH-60R Seahawk Boosts Naval Capabilities
Lockheed Martin manufactures the MH-60R Seahawk, which serves as a multi-mission naval helicopter.
The aircraft can perform several important missions, including:
- Anti-submarine warfare (ASW)
- Anti-surface warfare (ASuW)
- Search and rescue
- Maritime surveillance
- Reconnaissance
- Logistics support
Advanced radar, sensors, sonar and electronic warfare systems allow the helicopter to detect and track submarines and surface vessels.
Helicopters Strengthen Maritime Security
The Indian Navy can operate the MH-60R from major warships, including destroyers, frigates and aircraft carriers.
The additional helicopters will help the Navy monitor India’s extensive coastline and maritime boundaries. They will also support operations across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR), where maritime security has gained increasing strategic importance.
India Continues Naval Modernisation
India continues to modernise its armed forces by acquiring advanced platforms from both Indian and international manufacturers.
The MH-60R procurement forms part of India’s wider effort to improve naval preparedness and respond to conventional and emerging maritime security challenges.
The new helicopters can help the Navy conduct long-range surveillance, protect important sea routes and respond quickly to potential threats.
India-US Defence Cooperation Expands
India and the United States have significantly expanded their defence relationship over the past decade.
The two countries regularly participate in joint exercises, including the Malabar Naval Exercise, while several defence agreements have improved interoperability and information sharing.
Their cooperation now also covers areas such as defence manufacturing, intelligence sharing, cybersecurity and emerging technologies.
More Seahawks to Arrive Soon
The expected arrival of two additional MH-60R Seahawks will further increase the Indian Navy’s operational capabilities.
The latest delivery marks another step in India’s naval modernisation programme while highlighting the growing strategic cooperation between India and the United States in the Indo-Pacific region.
